July 1, 1982

On July 1, 1982, the Moncton Hospital’s OBGYN Department issued a public announcement that they would be discontinuing abortion services for a period of six months due to the impact of the intense pressure exerted by the pro-life movement on the psychological wellbeing of the physicians working there. The Therapeutic Abortion Committee (TAC) continued to operate, sending patients in need of abortion care to other hospitals in the province, or to Nova Scotia, Quebec, or Maine.
