The first reference to the creation of a Therapeutic Abortion Committee (TAC) at the Moncton Hospital appeared in their January 8, 1971 by-law amendment, which called on the board to appoint a TAC “consisting of five members of the Medical Staff. The appointment shall be made from nominations made by the Medical Staff in accordance with their Bylaws and Regulations.”
The Moncton Hospital would perform about two-thirds of the province’s abortions between 1971-1988.
